Also on that note, I have finally published my game on Itch. It took a long time to get this right but it feels so great to finish. This is the last game for my game development class and while it has been a difficult class for me, it was reallly fun.

Changed my score system slightly. I added two new functions for salary (when you do something right like get pepperonis and mozzarella on the crust or if you block out anchovies) and deduction (when the opposite happens). Not too big but it is kind of cool.

Managed to create a flashing title screen for my final game. The code to create this was real simple but it still looks quite impressive nonetheless. I feel this adds much "juice" to my game, giving it a vibrant feel to it.

Here are some of the potential assets I will have for my game. The pepperoni and the mozzarella (the block) will be the good ingredients the player will want to get while the anchovy will be the bad one. I initially wanted to add more but decided to hold back for now.

Made a potential BGM for my game, hopefully it will not be too difficult to code it in. I think the inspiration should be quite obvious. Vocals are done by me! It was actually a bit difficult to get it right but I think I got it.

It is a bit unfortunate that I would have to significantly downscale from my pitch, going from 5 levels to just 1. But I am grateful that I am allowed to do so as I realized the process of making 1 has been more difficult than I expected. At least, I might get this done in time.

But despite its strange and often disturbing moments, Sonic Dream Collection was actually made to be a celebration of the fandom. I can see how as the game is very well made even with its weirdness and Esposito clearly took from classic Sonic music when making the soundtrack.

Sonic Dream Collection was one of the last games they made before they quietly disbanded. It is a fan game made up of four games they claimed to be unfinished Sonic games they found in a developers kit. The games are really more of a parody of the weirder side of the Sonic fandom.

Arcane Kids was a group Esposito formed with a couple of his fellow students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. They would often make arcade games for events at Ground Zero, a DIY music venue at their school, usually hours before it started. Most of their games tend to be quite wacky.

Around the weekend, I did research on Ben Esposito, an indie game developer best known for his work on games like Donut County. I decided to play through a couple of his games, with the one that stood out to me being Sonic Dream Collection, a game he made with the group Arcane Kids.

My game, Heart Catcher is out now! It is a simple but vivid pong-style game where you have to catch up to a heart, with the background colors changing if you catch or miss it, representing the moods of the heart. Try to catch it as much as you can! bricksy.itch.io/heart-catcher

Practically gotten to the finishing touches of my abstract art game. As you can see I made it so that the color of the background changes if you hit or miss the heart. If you hit the heart, it goes faster, a stand in for its excitement, with the colors conveying moods.

Managed to implement a score for my upcoming game. I would have loved to place this in my paddle board game but I was unable to figure it out back then. For this one, I plan to make an abstract art game where the background changes color depending on if you hit or miss the heart.

The actual last game I played is Diving Bell by Ex-Writer. It is a simple game where you hold down the mouse to dive down underwater. Despite its simple controls, it is filled with incredible visuals, seemingly handmade and created with stunning colors to invoke the ocean.

The final game I played was Loneliness by Jordon. This game starts off with the player trying to reach out to a crowd who gets driven away when you approach. The crowd decreases more and more as you progress before finally being all alone and ending in darkness.

The next game was Sibiliant Snakelikes by pippinbarr which was a collection of snake games that parody popular games. These games were entertaining albeit frustrating because of their controls. My favorite was the Papers Please parody as it randomized with each play.

The next game was Passage by Jason Rohrer. It has a classic feel to it with its use of 8-bit sprites and chiptune music. The world starts out distorted but gradually clears up as you go further, with the characters changing as well, clearly an indication of time passing.

The next game was snow diarama (materials experiment) by loren schmidt. This was less of a game and more of an art exhibit with the snow on the screen making subtle changes over time. The use of pixels is incredibly vivid and stunning to look at.

The next game was shu by zitaoye. It is a simple game where the player has make a pattern. I admire how it has a clear calligraphy aesthetic as it makes look stunning. It gets a bit more difficult as it starts to make it that you need to either paint or through the circles.

My first game I played was melt by linseyray. It is a simple game where you hold either the left or right button to cause the circles to merge or separate. It is a sweet game that expresses intimacy through a very simple manner.

Added the paddle and it is working well to interact with the ball, allowing it to hit up as intended. I am still figuring out how to get the ball to below the y-axis and cause a game over as well as how to just let it go down straight at the start before it hits the paddle.

Forgot that I did not attach a video showcasing the issue. While I did manage to fix it, it gave me quite the headache to deal with yesterday. I tried all sorts of manners but never thought to adjust the z-axis for the position of the camera as the professor suggested me to do.

Thanks to my professor's help, I managed to get it working. All I had to do was adjust the camera angles to be on the z-axis. The final part will be to make the paddle and allow the ball to drop below the y-axis to cause a game over. Hopefully I will figure that out easily.

For my game, I have set up different bools to make it so that after players go through one option, they can then follow it up with another input to either move onto the next scene or go back to an area. It was a bit tricky getting it right but it works for now.

For Project 2.2, I am planning to make a text-based game that follows the life of being a college student. I have not progressed that far yet but I plan to have plenty of branches in this game. Hopefully it will not be too much to handle.
