Also on that note, I have finally published my game on Itch. It took a long time to get this right but it feels so great to finish. This is the last game for my game development class and while it has been a difficult class for me, it was reallly fun.

Changed my score system slightly. I added two new functions for salary (when you do something right like get pepperonis and mozzarella on the crust or if you block out anchovies) and deduction (when the opposite happens). Not too big but it is kind of cool.

Managed to create a flashing title screen for my final game. The code to create this was real simple but it still looks quite impressive nonetheless. I feel this adds much "juice" to my game, giving it a vibrant feel to it.

Made a potential BGM for my game, hopefully it will not be too difficult to code it in. I think the inspiration should be quite obvious. Vocals are done by me! It was actually a bit difficult to get it right but I think I got it.

It is a bit unfortunate that I would have to significantly downscale from my pitch, going from 5 levels to just 1. But I am grateful that I am allowed to do so as I realized the process of making 1 has been more difficult than I expected. At least, I might get this done in time.

This week I presented on Ben Esposito but I felt I did not cover the part on how Brian Eno inspired him by his ideas on how constraints can aid in creativity. He noted how his constraints with time led him to making a simple art style for Donut County (known as Katchina back then).

I forgot to post about it when I had finished it, but I have a finished draft of "The Beginner's Manga" ready to playtest! I have an idea of where I might take it as it is still a museum-like walkthrough game but I'll see after the playtesting. #SmallGameStudio

Around the weekend, I did research on Ben Esposito, an indie game developer best known for his work on games like Donut County. I decided to play through a couple of his games, with the one that stood out to me being Sonic Dream Collection, a game he made with the group Arcane Kids.

My game, Heart Catcher is out now! It is a simple but vivid pong-style game where you have to catch up to a heart, with the background colors changing if you catch or miss it, representing the moods of the heart. Try to catch it as much as you can! bricksy.itch.io/heart-catcher

Managed to implement a score for my upcoming game. I would have loved to place this in my paddle board game but I was unable to figure it out back then. For this one, I plan to make an abstract art game where the background changes color depending on if you hit or miss the heart.

My first game I played was melt by linseyray. It is a simple game where you hold either the left or right button to cause the circles to merge or separate. It is a sweet game that expresses intimacy through a very simple manner.

Trying to make a vertical pong style game, where the player uses a single paddle to keep the ball afloat. Unfortunately, while I got the movement code right, the camera can only show either movements on either the x or y-axis but not both at once. Would appreciate any help on this.

After taking way too long to complete, I have managed to upload my game, A Day in the Life on itch! It is basically a simulator of life as a college student with various choices you can sort through.

For Project 2.2, I am planning to make a text-based game that follows the life of being a college student. I have not progressed that far yet but I plan to have plenty of branches in this game. Hopefully it will not be too much to handle.

I played through Types of Narrative Choices with Victor. It is a simple but interesting game that explains different types of narrative choices through interactive options that the player selects. Even though many of the choices are simple, they convey the types well.

Before starting my actual script writing in Unity, I decided to import my teacher's pre-made scripts to ensure that Visual Studio will work. It went well and I decided to have fun by having all three scripts run together. Surprisingly, it did not break but it was funny to do this.

This is a glimpse of my work on Project 1 for my small studio game design class. It is rather bare at the moment but my idea is essentially to create a messy room that may indicate something wrong going on. It was difficult getting the models I wanted but hopefully these will work.

The final game I played was Paratopic, also with David. This game's visuals reminds me that of a PS1 game, albeit a bit more cleaner. Occasionally however, the graphics will warp, creating a creepy atmosphere. There are dialogue choices, some of which are quite humorous.

The next game I played was Titanic II with Raphael and David. This game was wild to play as we were thrown into an abyss with no idea of what is going on outside of some strange text. I wish it was not so slow as much of the playthrough was us just floating before we landed.

The next game I played was 232Henley by notapipe. Unfortunately I was unable to progress much in this game but it seems a lot more simplistic compared to the others. There seems to be a narrator but it was hard to hear. It does seem promising in its mystery though.

The second game I played was Thirty Flights of Love by Blendo Games with Jasmin. This game was much more cartoonish in its visuals compared to the previous one but it manages to highlight characters with depth through sudden flashbacks if you interact with them.

I examined Off-Peak by Cosmo D with Tyson. This game was really intriguing as it had incredibly bright visuals, having realistic textures and models. There is much to explore and interact in this game such as talking to NPCs and taking items.

This is my work on Project 0 for my small studio game design class. I am using Unity for this, with my intentions to make a factory stage. I have never used this program before so it is tricky getting the models right in place but figuring it out is still a fun process! #SmallGameStudio
