Sen. Alex Padilla, who was just forcibly removed from a DHS press conference, is the ranking member of Judiciary’s subcommittee on immigration, citizenship, and border safety, which has “oversight of federal agencies with citizenship, asylum, refugee, and immigration enforcement responsibilities.”

A DHS spokesperson defended the detainment, accusing Sen. Padilla of failing to properly identify himself during Sec. Kristi Noem's press conference.

But multiple videos show Padilla clearly identifying himself as a senator.
Sen. Padilla pushed to ground, handcuffed for demanding DHS not lie
Forcibly removing a sitting US senator, as they opposed the president's immigration policy, is a part of a broader slide.

This video shows what happened to Sen. Padilla after they forcibly removed him from Kristi Noem's press conference.

He's given orders from the officers that would cause him to smash his face, then pushed to the ground and handcuffed.

I'm on my way to the Senate floor to talk about the assault on my colleague, Senator Alex Padilla.

This is a horrifying moment in our nation’s history.

Padilla: If this is how DHS responds to a senator with a question you can only imagine what they're doing to farm workers, to cooks, to day laborers out in the Los Angeles community and throughout California.

Just like in the parks, safety comes first.
- Stay with your group
- Follow the signs (or in this case, the facts)
- Leave no one behind
- Document everything
- Don’t engage alone

“Strongman” politicians project their supposed strength by attacking immigrants, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community.

But these groups of people aren't the "threats" we should be worried about. Who is?

The oligarchs who earn their keep by exploiting the rest of us.

The military isn’t being employed to carry out an immigration policy.

The immigration policy, and especially the way the administration is choosing to carry it out, is an excuse to call out the military.

The federal government is moving to take over the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 soldiers.

That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions.

1/ If accurate, this is almost certainly a conflict with the Posse Comitatus Act, which prohibits the use of the military for domestic law enforcement, including the National Guard if they are federalized.

Don't give them one.
