Oil & gasoline higher but not by much. Oil was higher 2 weeks ago and gasoline futures (RBOB) back to August levels.

Keys will be:
1. length of tariffs
2. Canada's response
3. Location

Midwest drivers could see price hike soon as most Canadian imports go to refineries there

Breaking from the Treasury:

Budget deficit rose in December and is now 40% higher than it was a year ago

Bond yields spiking again on inflation fears.

The last 2 times yields spiked, stocks sold off (though did come back, clearly!)

Not happening this time ... maybe because Europe in far worse shape than we are?

If your light and heat are working from North Carolina to Virginia to Ohio ... thank coal.

Coal + nat gas + nuclear are 88% of your power generation mix this morning.

It's not pretty and certainly not what we'd think would be the case in 2025, but that's our reality.

Will be busy cutting firewood this weekend.

Maybe CNBC needs a Miami bureau?

Should we do a poll to see if we need a poll option for this fine platform?

Fed uses the trebuchet 1/2% cut in September but 2 months later decides it needs the slingshot instead.

Amazing

Where the Fed first cut rates by a startling 1/2%

Bond yields have soared since as inflation stays pretty hot.

Okay seriously what's the deal with these drones everyone apparently keeps seeing over NJ?

From a widely read DC political newsletter this morning...

Citigroup says tax filings indicate the monthly 'household' jobs survey is overstated. Suggests Fed may have to act (lower rates) to counter a weaker than expected actual jobs situation

Lines up with what we heard on our election road trip: job market is worse than what some data points may suggest
December 9, 2024 at 2:31 PM
More of your tax dollars are now going to paying interest on the national debt than Medicare or defense.

Much of those interest payments are going to the already rich and/or other countries so at least there's that ... 😕 #sarcasm

Random but interesting

Unless there’s a baby involved, never, ever trust anyone who doesn’t return the shopping cart. Danzig was correct.

Apollo nails it as usual. Yes, the rate of inflation may be coming down but the cost of living is soaring.

Electricity and car insurance are popping and not coming down anytime soon

This is what many in mainstream missed about the story ahead of the election: *rate not same as the actual amount.

Trying to convince ⁦‪@CNBC‬⁩ the beard a good look. Working on it.

Lots to discuss with new Trump cabinet. Expect to be in DC a fair amount next few months.

Happy almost Thanksgiving all. “See” you soon (eye joke).

Germany's industrial collapse lurches on.

You may not think it matters, but when the world's (formerly) 4th largest economy continues to decline in one key part of its
existence, it does matter.

Could be one reason the U.S. markets doing so well .. where else you going to go? Not Germany ...

The quiet millionaire maker: coffee

Over the past 2 years, coffee prices have nearly doubled, well outperforming the S&P 500.

A few coffee traders have no doubt gotten really rich!

$NVDA barely moving on earnings and markets the same.

Miller Tabak says Nvidia now only sorta matters to the market (and energy stocks about to break out)
