Have we been measuring mountains all wrong?
A new method for quantifying grandeur is reshuffling the pecking order of the planet’s most impressive peaks. Turns out Everest has steep competition.

I was an adolescent fantasy nerd in Oshkosh, WI, when I learned that Fonstad was from my town, and it was an epiphanic realization that you could be from flyover country and do creative, ambitious things. She was a hero, and it was an honor getting to write this.

Arthur Frommer played a HUGE role in opening travel/tourism up to the masses. He inspired my mom in the 1960s—and me, a generation later. I followed in his footsteps for my first book. Felt like I knew him.

Devastated.

Audubon Magazine did a profile on me. It was a joy to hang out with writer Brian Kevin (I took him pigeon-watching) and get photos taken by Sophie Park. This article is personal and, well, I'm a private gal so being beheld is alarming, but I think it turned out great www.audubon.org/magazine/som...

This is the most incredible object in my house. Scientists should study it. A perfectly lovely ceramic dripper that manages not to fit on any mug ever created, no matter the size of the mug. Quantum shit.
