Chances are that if you’ve dialled 999, it has been a worrying moment in your life.

But for staff at the National Ambulance Service, such calls are a normal part of the 1,000 or so emergencies processed at their command and control centres every day.

Absolutely true, LLMs aren’t a substitute for knowledge. They’re incredibly useful tools, but you need to know enough in the first place to see when the output is wrong. Also works when you get output and then go and learn enough to know it’s right.
I honestly believe all LLM results should come with a disclaimer reminding people that the thing doesn’t (and absolutely cannot) know any facts or do any reasoning; it is simply designed to *sound* like it knows facts and frequently sweeps some up accidentally in the process.
I really think many if not most of the LLM fail cases are people trying to use it as a search engine. It is the opposite of a search engine.

#Gemini Advanced is impressive. I was reading a complex paper and had questions. Fire up the AI and before I knew it I was having a conversation about specifics in that paper and how it relates to other models. You need to know enough to see if it's wrong, but still incredibly helpful.
