I do law things for a living but never appear in court, and believe that Del’s Lemonade should at least be on equal footing with coffee milk as Rhode Island’s state drink.
So this is either the “fuck around, find out” moment for Trump or the “we’re now Zimbabwe printing $500 million notes to buy bread” moment for the United States. 🤷‍♂️

What is, Ken’s right?

Even if Trump could cancel the midterms he wouldn’t. Authoritarians crave validation. They still have “election style events” in Russia and Venezuela for that reason.

Our electoral system is too decentralized to rig so it’s our chance to massively rebuke this shit.
First, it's factually wrong. There will be elections in 2026 and 2028 under Trump, just like there were elections last year under Trump and during his first term. This despite one of the two major parties now harboring a lot of anti-democratic elements and ideas.

ken did a really great thread here that nicely articulates why i block doomers.

the only thing i’ll add is this: doomerism is a form of voter suppression. saying shit like “there won’t be elections” is saying there’s no point in fighting. it’s demotivating. fuck that.
This kind of thing does point out a real ethical dilemma: block or mute?

Remember that MAGA demanded people to lose their jobs, be jailed, and deported for factually restating things that Charlie Kirk said, and all made fun of Paul Pelosi when he was almost bludgeoned to death with a hammer.

This, I’m sure, will not be met with the same reaction.

Was playing around with district.org last night because it bothers me that D-1 stretches from Burrillville to Little Compton.

Turns out you can basically keep Providence County intact with the exception of South Providence. Had to borrow a bit from Western Cranston.

Gotta remember that Trump lacks the normal human wiring to rationalize current statements with past ones or evaluate them re: the future.

He says whatever he needs to say to win the current moment without regard to whether it’s consistent with past statements or leads to undesired consequences.

The Democrats are so conditioned to the media blaming them for anything that goes wrong in politics and government (and giving the GOP a pass) that they’ve got the yips in this shutdown.

They’re clearly winning the argument but can’t believe it’s true so they’re eager to cave!

The Democrats’ inability to keep taking a win and instead enable a bunch of arsonists to continue setting fire to things is really something.

Legacy car-dependent suburbs have always been financially unsustainable and the combination of municipal debt, climate change and demographics are going to wreak havoc on that development model sooner than we think.

Yet another reason not to capitulate. Mark Carney and Doug Ford took the ad down to play nice in the sandbox and what’d they get for it? A 10% tariff. Might as well stand your ground and keep pissing him off if you’re gonna end up in the same place anyway.
The president of the United States is “increasing the Tariff on Canada by 10%” because he worries the nine justices on the Supreme Court could be swayed by a 30-second commercial.

For years “free market conservatives” railed against non-existent “uncertainty” and “socialism” under Democratic presidents but now it’s all fine by them because MAGA cut billionaires’ taxes and gutted worker and consumer protections, which were the things they disliked all along.
“.. The US now doles out nearly $200 billion in direct subsidies for favored businesses each year, and the president has imposed an expansive tariff regime, which will likely invite corruption, waste tax dollars, and sap ambition.”

They’re acting rationally to the media’s application of Murc’s Law.

Only Dems are responsible for the nation’s political environment and “bringing the temperature down.”

MAGA is awash in violent rhetoric and is doubling down on it based on this heinous act, but the media ascribes them no agency.

Yup… essentially what I’m geared up for until I’m six feet under.
Someone recently said to me that things will get worse before they get better, but that is not true. There is no guarantee that anything gets better. Things can just continue getting worse and worse.

I can't stop thinking about that today.

1. No one, absolutely no one, should suffer violence for political speech. Democrats are forcefully and correctly denouncing this heinous act.

2. If you think MAGA won’t use this as pretense for a violent crackdown on its political opponents then you haven’t been paying attention.

Hasbro wanted a vibrant urban environment well-served by transit to serve their current and future business model and told RI that.

RI’s leaders can’t imagine a world without complete car dependence and everyone living in a West Cranston raised ranch so gutted RIPTA and fought liberalized zoning.

I’m not even freaking 40 yet and I recall John Kerry being skewered as a “flip-flopper” because of poor word choice regarding voting one way out of committee and another way on the floor.

Will the media call Murkowski out on this? No, because according to them integrity is for democrats only.
I am a deeply serious person. Please don’t vote for the death-causing authoritarianism…that I just voted for 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Why are we here, you ask? This. This is exactly why we are here.
