Savvy operative types in DC truly believed then and believe now that average Americans are too dumb to understand how government works or why it exists. Educating and defending the Corporation for Public Broadcasting—with its profound impact on people for negligible taxpayer cost—was a layup.

To all media outlets: I am begging you, if you are writing a story about something the White House is doing, imagine if it was Obama or Biden doing the same thing and then cover it like that. Why you continue to cover him with kid gloves is unfathomable.

This is hardly the most important thing in re: Trump's obsession with Canada but; why only one state? Canada is the 2nd largest country in the world by area and has more people than any US state. Admitting as only one state would be super unwieldy.
