I can’t speak to grad school generally, but I work in law school admissions. Under ABA requirements, all law schools have to disclose data which the ABA makes publicly available. Part of that data is a breakdown of offers and matriculants by gender and ethnicity. White men are doing just fine.
But, wait, neither of those are the real grievance at the heart of this tale. No, that would be the fact that according to purely anecdotal evidence, no white men were admitted to graduate school in 2021 (except for one trans man, of course).

This question (or some variant of it) comes up occasionally. Every time, there are two correct answers: That Thing You Do and Scotty Doesn’t Know.
There's a small genre of song that's like "song created for a movie that is supposed to be a hit song within the fictional world of the movie."

Have any been actual good-enough-to-be-hits besides "Golden" and "I Am A Man of Constant Sorrow?"

The United States in 2025:

When a conversation about security for the High Holidays (itself a stressful and distressing enough topic) also includes “what do we do if ICE shows up?”

My torts professor loved this case and brought it up often. His other go-to: the “canister vacuum” case (Larue v. National Union). He also dressed as “Tortman” for Halloween & said he was “raising the spirits of Halloween” before taking a swig from a bottle of Jack. Peter Swisher was one of a kind.
Okay, so this was obviously a trick question. I was going to do the thread no matter what.

Friends, let me recount for you the greatest torts case ever for teaching the concept of proximate causation.

The case of the flaming rat. (United Novelty Co., Inc. v. Daniels, 42 So.2d 395 (Miss. 1949)).
Okay. So I'm not getting a lot of work done this afternoon.

Would people be interested in the story of my favorite torts case from law school?

If there's interest, I'll do a thread that marries my passions and does some law and some gaming.

Holy crap, it’s Steiner Math in an actual legal argument.
DOJ just argued in the MSPB/NLRB case that they have a strong likelihood of success because 'if we have a 40% chance of success on two separate issues, that combines to a 65% chance of success on the merits.' What an absurd argument.

I’m looking forward to hearing @kenwhite.bsky.social on the next Serious Trouble, which I can only assume will be a 17 hour deep dive into the first half-day of the Trump presidency.

Been a Rams fan my whole life, and will be one forever. Proud as hell of this team and the resilience they showed. So close to punching our ticket, but the future is bright.

Putting this out there for accountability. My lifelong best friend is a Commanders fan and lives in LA. I’m a lifelong Rams fan. If both of our teams win this weekend, I will move heaven and earth (and pay a stupid amount) to fly cross country and go to the NFC Championship.

I’d like to request this Sam Darnold/Vikings team for the Rams to play next week. This is…not good.

I’ve been called for jury duty in Henrico on Wednesday. Time for a fun game of “will I know/have gone to law school with either of the attorneys in this case?” to make the day go by faster. Potentially MUCH faster.

What a hit by Fiske! Let’s punch it in, offense!

Shoutout to @seattlerams.bsky.social for sharing stuff from all of the best writers and strongest voices and thus helping me find all of the #RamSky community. Now we just need the team!

Hey @kenwhite.bsky.social, is it bad when a federal judge says this about your complaint?

Look, I’m the first to say that exit polls and turnout numbers shouldn’t be read into too much. But if you’ve been a “the markets always know” obsessive, this seems like a pretty strong indicator that at least some people are worried.

I work in law school admissions, so the worlds are a bit different but, in general, PLEASE tell them to reach out to our offices instead of going straight to faculty. We have resources that will help them and can connect them to (willing) faculty in a much more orderly fashion. That’s what we do!
Please stop telling undergrads who want to go to grad school that they should try to set up a Zoom conversation with potential advisors before they've even applied.

I am begging you.

Anyone out there tracking who has endorsed Harris? They’re coming so fast it’s hard to keep up.

Look, sometimes you end up with a bumper crop of fresh blueberries, and muffins simply must be made. These tops got a little…big, but they’re tasty, so I’m not complaining.

I’m not at all convinced that he’ll actually be able to find the line to sign on his retirement paperwork, but this is nothing but good for baseball.

Good riddance to a truly, profoundly terrible umpire.

Really fantastic piece on @akivamcohen.bsky.social’s team at KUSK. I’ve said it before: I love my career in law school admissions, but that’s the first group where I’ve said “I wish I could practice with them.” Not just great legal minds, but truly incredible people.

Being reminded of the glorious time that was the Threadnought, and the Voltron-esque legal team that emerged from it, I’m inclined to believe @akivamcohen.bsky.social could’ve had a hell of a career in professional sports if he wanted it. The man’s skill at scouting talent is next level.

I often think about this quote from Albert Einstein: “If my theory of relativity is proven correct, Germany will claim me as a German and France will declare that I am a citizen of the world. Should my theory prove untrue, France will say that I am a German and Germany will declare that I am a Jew.”

I can’t wait for this week’s Serious Trouble, where Josh will ask @kenwhite.bsky.social if Kise and Habba are good lawyers, followed by Ken’s head exploding.

@akivamcohen.bsky.social Good Shabbos to you and your family, Akiva. Here’s hoping when this one ends, there won’t be terrible news awaiting us.
