Civility is a cudgel used by the highborn as an excuse to protect their position, smother change, and keep everyone else down.

This is why I loved the choice in @campaignpod.bsky.social ‘s Skyjacks story (queer sky pirates) that the first ship the crew did battle with was called the Civility.

May I suggest the queer erotica novel series Nexus Alpha by @ela-bambust.bsky.social . It’s a healthy dose of Giant Fighting Robots except it’s “Oops, All Lesbians,” and it’s a criticism of the military industrial complex.

Exhibit B: Pretzel. Buddy’s twin brother, named by the shelter owner’s 5yo child who said “Who doesn’t love a pretzel?” She was right. We lost Pretzel to cancer two years ago but he was a marshmallow in the shape of a cat who was incapable of doing wrong, and was the sunshine in everyone’s day.

Exhibit A: Buddy! He came with that name from the shelter because he’s everyone’s buddy. He wasn’t explicitly named after food, but imma squeak him in under the technicality that Muddy Buddies are a Chex Mix variety. Also he is such a sweet and proper gentleman!

It is amazing how many plants struggle to be grown at all, then there are others like this that go “Oh, you didn’t even TRY to plant me this year? HOLD MY BEER.”
