Truth, y'all. If something is broken, there's a fair chance I broke it.
A quick note that we're having some server issues that are delaying our ability to process manuscripts. All should be sorted out soon, but if you've been experiencing delays ... it's probably us, not you. We blame @bowmanspartan.bsky.social for mucking about. =)

Very much dig this. There is a surprisingly amount of resistance between "camps" at recognizing how similar sports and esports scholarship is.
I love this study because it highlights two things:

1) Esports are like regular sports: you’re mostly watching other people play; and
2) not everyone who enjoys watching Esports is necessarily a player of those same games

Normalizing Esports as just another sport opens up more research! #commsky
Paying, Playing, and Spectating: Relationships Between Digital Game Play and Spectating Esports - Joseph Macey, Topias Mattinen, Juho Hamari, 2025
The association between playing digital games and watching esports has, to date, been an explicit assumption of many works, specifically that there is a strong ...

We've got a MASSIVE DEEP-DIVE rebuttal to the NIH leadership’s recent essay. They're arguing for a head-in-the-sand approach to pandemic preparedness.

The great @angierasmussen.bsky.social joins me in an extraordinarily detailed, line-by-line fact check.

A rebuttal to NIH leadership's screed against pandemic preparedness.
Dr. Angela Rasmussen joins Inside Medicine for a tag-team response to a poorly reasoned essay by NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya and his deputy, Dr. Matthew Memoli.

Rather than giving the funds directly insurance companies to ensure coverage at cut rates, we'd instead rather give the money to people so that they can be either (a) denied coverage or (b) drastically over-charged and they we can shrug our shoulders and say "we never saw this coming."
The Republicans don't believe any of this bullshit. They know how insurance works. They've been bribed by the insurance industry for their entire careers. This is just a lame attempt to hide the fact that they want to deny health care to millions of Americans.
Cassidy: "The president is proposing that we take the $26b that would be going to insurance companies if we just do an extension and give it directly to the American people in which 100% of the money is used for them to purchase healthcare on their own terms. That makes them an informed consumer."

In some instances, it could be that people are emulating the formats that they see other people using in public communication—which, yes, have evolved to be such as they are because the internet and algorithms reward forms that drive self-promotion.

I think emulation is a big part of it. It is a public service IMO to demystify surveillance, tech, and data privacy, but people have learned from YouTube and other platforms where length of views = $ and the TEDx culture of "everyone has a story" to make it a long winding narrative or something...

I'm actually shocked. Good on Dana Bash for asking the question, and I genuinely would not have expected Greene to answer the way she did.
BASH: We have seen these attacks from the president at other people. It's not new. And I haven't heard you speak out about it until it was directed at you.

MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE: I think that's fair criticism. And I would like to say, humbly, I'm sorry for taking part in the toxic politics.

When you have to go hunting for "violent criminals" and your dragnet turns up mostly construction workers, migrant labor & families - the issue is immigration reform, not crime.

The party of small government seems to favor a large and roving police state ... just so long as we're policing "them."

Imagine how quickly this shutdown could end if Congress worked with each other & stopped taking their marching orders from others?

This Congress has done so much to cede its own authority and really, this needs to be a time where the Legislative ... legislates. Stop bowing to the other branches.
