So cool how the wikipedia article for "repressed memory" is like 90% child abuse apologism and the talk page is just wikipedia editors reacting with total obtuseness to people pointing this out

My gf just picked this up, flipped to a random page, gave me a baffled look and started asking "Is this a schizotext? Was the person who wrote this insane??"

I wonder if the epstein files leaking has made people any more receptive to my view that if you seriously set out to solve the problem of child abuse in our society you will necessarily be solving every other social ill as well
I feel like at some point we're going to need to acknowledge that the computer literacy crisis is caused almost entirely by prioritizing controlling what kids are allowed to do on the computer over teaching them how the computer works
we don't talk enough about the damage that widespread chromebook adoption by schools has done to computer literacy in children

You can't hate someone who hurts a kid enough to ever heal that kid—sorry. You have to deal with the fact that you're surrounded by people who abuse kids with impunity. It's the reproduction of *rape culture* which disempowers and isolates children you have to fix. Sanctimony is part of rape culture
I don't think how upset bystanders are matters for the sake of victims. In fact—when bystanders exaggerate their own feelings and their impulses to act on them, they make it harder for victims to be heard. Abuse does not make people infinitely damaged goods. Victims need to be heard and to be healed

I've always found the "you're valid" stuff strange because it seems to implicitly reference yet not actually articulate some system for determining validity. "Valid" according to what, exactly? Is it just ill-defined in-group dogma? Or universal tautology? Is everything "valid"?
It is kinda hard to take people seriously when the objection to centering entitlement to transition resources in the concept of trans people as a political class is met with the liberal idealism of "it is valid for a trans woman to identify as a cis woman"
sorry—the struggle sessions WILL continue.

I spend a lot of time helping people not die. I haven't helped THAT many people but more than one. I've taught people and fed people and talked to people and waited with them, and I guess you gotta understand how much love I have for everything, so I do whatever I can with what I have.

The Situationists called this "survival sickness", the tendency for capitalist alienation to reduce living to surviving until survival itself becomes unbearable
Captain: "I can’t just sit here and do nothing. That’s all I’ve ever done! That’s all anyone on this blasted ship has ever done. Nothing!"
AUTO: "On the Axiom, you will survive."
Captain: "I don’t want to survive. I want to live."

There's a sort of eschatology to dec/acc: be one of the Powerful People who causes The Collapse and you'll be rewarded in the Post-Collapse with your own company town the size of a small country and as many robot butlers and soldiers as you need to hold power and live in luxury Forever
Essentially if you collapse the state and the economy on purpose, then you're planning on replacing it with something. Anyone pushing LLMs is accepting that if they're successful, our current economic model implodes because it jettisons major economy segments and replaces them with nothing.

Thinking about when I was learning about analog computing years ago and saw all the equations I'd been using to describe circuits instead treated as the programs for them to evaluate. Everything around us is information being manipulated, physics and computing are just two sides of the same coin
it’s precisely because consciousness and life is there when you look at anything that we can say it is transcendent and because consciousness and life is something we carry with us that we can say it is immanent. a microchip is one of the most intricate things in the world—brains made little sisters

*eyes glowing red, body lifting off the ground* The widespread destructive force of "irony poisoning" is a result of failure of adulthood to allow adequate forms of play which allow inhabiting the detestable in a momentary and harmless way
