The university wanted to chop at least eight of us down for a small building that could easily go elsewhere. The community fought back and we were saved!

A person is injured, the VPD have failed them, "expert lawyers" are misleading the public, and changes to the MVA are pointless unless actually upheld. THREAD 🧵

“A new study has calculated that increasing trees and other vegetation in urban areas by 30% could have prevented more than 1/3rd of all global heat-related deaths between 2000 to 2019. In total, 1.16 million lives may have been saved with more greenery during this 20-year period.” Via @euronews.com

If you want Mark Carney as our Prime Minister, don’t take anything for granted today.

Trump won in part because too many people didn’t think he would.

Think how you’ll feel if Poilievre wins a close election & you didnt #VOTE for Carney.

This is no time to take chances.

TURNOUT WINS ELECTIONS.

Awful news to report: a scooter rider was hit about an hour ago on the seawall detour outside Science World. The City stated they chose a less safe route for the detour, crossing the Science World parking lot entrance, because they wanted to preserve more parking. 1/2

Reminder: Pierre Poilievre STILL refuses to apply for the normal, usual security clearance, the Canadian media is STILL under-reporting that, and I’m STILL choosing to assume under these dangerous and scary circumstances that it’s because he knows that he wouldn’t pass the security check.

When ABC and Ken Sim removed the Stanley Park bike lane, the number of speeding drivers increased by 5-fold. We warned that this made the park more dangerous. Now, a young man is dead. Our leaders' actions have consequences.

My neighbourhood eagles were renovicted to “protect” them from construction. They didn’t get the memo and still hang out in their tree. Today I watched from my living room window as one of them buzzed the construction site, Top Gun-style. 🦅🛩️

IMPORTANT: If you live in the United States or Canada, you’ve probably heard Trump‘s constant claim that the United States is “subsidizing” Canada. It’s wrong of course, but here’s the best explanation I’ve seen about how & why it’s wrong. PLEASE WATCH & SHARE IT A LOT. Kudos to Andrew Chang & CBC.

For posterity: some of children’s artwork that Cllr Montague found “intimidating” and ordered removed at today’s Council presentation on his amendment to re-introduce gas to future construction.

Imagine how intimidated those lil kids felt coming to City Hall to present about their climate future.

Maybe it'll become a trend for people to menace the mayor of Vancouver by brandishing colourful artwork made by small children at him.
Beyond parody: while debating the motion to re-instate natural gas heating in new buildings, Mayor Sim and Cllr. Brian Montague described the colourful artwork created by children & displayed by Cllrs Fry & Carr "intimidating" to those who express pro-gas opinions. Demand the signs be taken down.
