Lasers, books, and dancing.
Someone in my neighborhood has been putting their fireplace to use, and the aroma is wonderful. Just a sweet tinge of burning wood in the cold air.

However, on some level, it's also a wonder of our evolution. A million years ago, smell of fire was a sure sign of terror, not cozy pleasure.

"Ghandi was speaking the most unpleasant of truths when he said that truth could not coexist with a surrender to the habit of violence. There was never a more primitive delusion, nor an idea surer to license immoral actions, than the belief that there are good guys and that you are one of them."

Fightin' crime in DC: four Secret Service cruisers pulled over one car. Woodley Park, near the Connecticut Ave bridge.

Anyone else know what's going on? @popville.bsky.social?

Early in Australia's colonial history, there was a conflict between former convicts and British colonial elites. A former British magnate dragged his populist foes with the following list.
Here's to a better future secured by an alliance of adventurers, music shop strangers, and tambourine girls!

One of my favorite things is finding local community radio stations in cities I visit. Heard this in the late, late hour on Pittsburgh's WRCT, and can't stop thinking about it.

Watching a video by @citybeautiful.nebula.tv on college towns, and this line came up: "[College towns] are what suburbs should have been."

Man, that cuts right to a lot of it. Suburbs are a great missed opportunity of America.

I think a fair argument post-election was that conservatives dominate not just the mainstream news media, but the independent market, like podcasts and news influencers. Can we collectively invest in promoting left-of-center, mid-popularity podcasts etc., and target purple counties?

Wild legal theory - would it be possible for the federal workers currently being abused by DOGE to go after Musk's acolytes in civil court? Since Musk's crew, in many cases, are not legitimate federal servants. Also wouldn't be subject to Trump's pardon power? Enforcement via state police agencies?

A few of the accounts that have followed me recently are OnlyFans fronts. This place was nice while it lasted.

Reminds me of getting friended by strippers on old MySpace way back when.

Well hello everybody either way!

A few photos from my Thanksgiving trip to Lovers Key, FL.
A lot of mangroves and their dunes have been devastated by the last two hurricanes that have hit the area, and now patches of completely dead trees are pretty common along the beach.

Anyone else read "Independent People"? Just finished it. Will trade feelings and opinions about it for the same.

It's long, poetic, and bleak. Great winter reading.
