The last few days have been so hard. My whole body feels scraped and tender and raw from grief and sadness. It's the continuing realization that I will never get to cook with her standing on the other side of the counter again. Or ask her advice how long to bake her pie crust. I feel mangled.

Today is Trans Day of Remembrance.

Today we remember and grieve all those we have lost. But we also commit – collectively – to fighting for those of us who are left. There will be hope as long as we continue to stand together.

Visited Mt. Pilot yesterday with prayers and healing energy for all land connected to the ley lines there. Upon arrival, I found a big stone and laid down for 15 minutes or so and just cried. The world is so much right now. Here's a few shots of this quartzite monadnock. Magical.

October 25 is the date of the Council of Elrond and, therefore, the date on which Frodo utters one of my favorite lines in all of literature.

“I will take the Ring, though I do not know the way.”

That’s all we can ever do, I think: decide what to do with the time that is given us.

The museums are being shutdown.
Are we great yet?
Everyone’s being fired.
Are we great yet?
Food is rotting in our fields.
Are we great yet?
The market’s crashing greatly.
Diseases are now running rampant.
At what point aren’t we great?
Our military’s in line at food banks.
So super great.

I spoke with my youngest brother, estranged for over 15 years, for three hours yesterday. Sad that the death of our mother was the catalyst, and it was a lot. Overall, good talk and inroads to repair and healing established. I'm emotionally exhausted today. 2025 has been, just, wow.

Happy #SpookyMonth! I'm spending October rounding up some death doula resources, since so much of the work is either learned through direct practice or just knowing how to find legal resources online.

For October 1st, here's an adaptation of an exercise from "The Devil's Death" by Shiva Honey:

Covid is a social justice issue, especially now that governments have abandoned us in favour of “you do you” policies that leave the vulnerable by the wayside

Wearing a mask is a form of resistance

It protects your health & the health of your community

It says you don’t view others as expendable

Today would have been mom's 75th birthday. We would have been celebrating her being here in NC. We would have been doting on her and making up for many years of missed birthdays, holidays, milestones. Now, we grieve and think about what could have been, and know that the world is one lumen darker.

As you cancel streaming services, here is a casual reminder that only 16% of Americans read for pleasure anymore, and your local library has hundreds or thousands of books you haven't read.

They would love to see you stop by and renew your library card.

Two things can be true at once.

You can mourn another death by gun violence while recognizing that a vile human is gone.

You can also live in the space of not knowing how to feel. You don’t need to perform.

God's, the mornings have been glorious this week! I go out with my tea and breathe. There is something in the woods behind the house that legit smells like high end sandalwood. Some tree downshifting lingam, or leaf receiving the abscission signal...so lovely.

House sitting for this elder cat again this week. His people have alerted the vet and I that he's not doing so well (he's 15), and I am hoping delivering a deceased cat to the vet is not on my 2025 hellscape bingo card.
