When I lived in France they had a little news feature report with ER doctors talking about seasonal injury waves, specifically nasty puncture wounds to the hands on New Year's Eve, from inexperienced people using oyster knives.

Indeed, and it's easy to us a term like US Americans that's acceptable to both as it acknowledges both, the standard term for self-identification and the wider context.

Conversely, where I live it would be utterly absurd to be surprised at a left-winger who hunts & fishes, and the towing truck guy who pulled an inexperienced kid's car out of the mud had painted and manicured fingernails, tattoos and a dapper cowboy hat.

Went to a conference right at the peak of the 23/24 curve. Met up with a friend, a NOAA employee I hadn't seen for 15 years. We had dinner and chatted all evening. He was coughing and started to feel worse. Next day at urgent care: Influenza B. I was vaccinated and lucky - didn't get a sniffle.

Well that's 25 year old data tho. I'm sure contemporary data would show similar trends, but two historical datasets ... Arhats a little hand-wavey.

The information left out of the articles is whether there's anything keft of the digital services unit that DOGE colonized and implanted itself in. It had a range of useful functions to improve interoperability, usability, and probably other aspects of a modern online gvmt, before key people left.
