Spent the day outdoors with two friends and radio equipment helping with an activity that goes by the unlikely label “activating a summit”. The credit goes to KL0D and KL4LJ, but I had a great time and got to examine the 2021 Munson Creek fire scar Also, berries. So many berries. #sota

It's a sad day today. Our lovely Boe died in his sleep last night. He was a good dog - big, sturdy, enthusiastic, and kind - and gave the best kisses. I can't believe he was the first among the seven siblings to go. We'll miss him terribly. (Photo by Melinda)

Fire information board in front of Fred Meyer West in Fairbanks. It’s quite well made QR codes to the best official blog-style site and to road traffic status, a map, burn and fireworks ban reminders, evacuation resources and an infographic about fires ecological role #alaskasky #akfire

I drove home late tonight and got to enjoy a (last?) aurora display. Nights are already getting bright, and to my left, in the north(-east), the sky was flooded with light from the sun just below the horizon.

Today in winter break adventures: Made Hanukkah-appropriate latkes. Put knitted sweater back on needles for rip repair. And consider ourselves super lucky for having opted for emergency surgery last Sat for one naughty Siberian husky, who had the remnants of a cycling glove in her small intestine.

Before Saturday runs out, a bit about relaxing projects. Some recently finished #knitting projects to address the baby boom at our institute. Plus a gift.
