Yup that's a pattern I'm noticing a lot as well. A lot of my fav mid to late 80s games are very much like direct successors to that philosophy where they ramped up the action & power trip aspect a little bit more but still kept that feeling of powerlessness at their core. Love that shit

Not only does it capture that action-thriller aspect of you waiting for the elevator to come while enemies close in, but enemies will often do all the worst shit possible or spawn from the worst spots forcing you to improv. These little wait times went from my least fav to one of my fav things

If you've played a newer Elevator Action game, or stuff like Bayo 3's sections, you have not played Elevator Action AT ALL IMO Remedy that.

Whatever sorta stealth dynamics that existed were incidental and a situational tactical choice, NOT the focus or the point. Yet subsequent devs focused in on them, probably because they were obvious, surface level, easily understood & trendy when a lot of these sequels like Old & New came out.

Like that swedish dude might seem like an exception but he's not, so many guys in retro spaces are exactly lik ethat to a less extreme extent. They don't play anything, they don't think about anything, have massive egos and then they get offended & become volatile when you tell them to play & think

Sure tho I mean is this anything special? Think of GnG, a lot of the time you'll pre-throw spears or wait in place while a mobile enemy gets into range or something. It's also less of an element with Haggar cuz of his jab speed

Not really no, Ninja Warriors Once Again has speedrunning-as-scoreplay which is sick, Slashout has a pretty decent mix of speedrunning & juggle combos, Knights of the Round has an inteersting enemy type chaining system but overall I can't think of anything that grabbed me, tho I havent looked 2 hard

I don't understand why those outsiders think that I want to improve the port in any way what-so-ever, so I shoulda worked on conveying that more clearly. It'd be better if he didn't implement that in fact, would be easier to dismiss it & go tell people to play the real game

It's easy to focus on the negatives and how picky dev can make you, but god the positive shit hits so much harder

Now discussions with players, those have only turned into pure misery and get worse every year.
