Lol. This is exactly how we've ended up with two conservative parties and how we'll end up with a Conservative government soon. Partisan politics melts partisan brains.

I hate the "cattle vs. pets" framing of managing larger clusters of computers with automation, implying that managing small clusters or single machines is done manually.

I hate it because managing a single machine without a framework suitable for automation has been generally poor practice […]

Nice to know from replies that there is a wide range of different names to call the neck-tube thing! (which I did not know existed before living in Saskatchewan, and now wear every day for probably ~1/3 of the year)

This is the pattern for my favourite one (the one that I need to find...) and […]

What makes you an "experienced" knitter is you figured out how to fix them rather than setting your entire yarn stash and half your clothes on fire and running away screaming and just buying your socks at walmart.

Second try worked. 😵‍💫

I had to drop every-other-stich down two rows and pick them back up in the correct colours from the floats behind.

I am the living proof of what the Yarn Harlot said about […]

I have now served a stint as a grant adjudicator. It was stressful & a bit of a bloodbath. Not sure I want to ever do that again, but it was certainly educational. There's nowhere near enough money to go to all the deserving artists. Tax the rich and bring about UBI already.

Went to the movies in the middle of a Friday and had almost the entire theater to ourselves.

Today we're heading to the thrift store.

So far 10/10 weekend.

We absolutely need universal basic income as a secure floor below which no one can fall and everyone can build from. It should not be normalized for people to seek 2nd, 3rd, and 4th jobs in order to make enough money to survive or have a backup plan in case of unexpected job and income loss.
One feature of the collapse we are living through is that things poorer people have had to do are creeping up the income scale

They can spin it however but struggling to make ends meet with a hodge podge of sortof-jobs is both very normal and very bad
