Glass Maps 19:the Reveal

My wife & I bundled up Map B and drove it to Galena, Illinois where we met my brother & his wife who came from the Philadelphia area. My other brother joined us from Michigan.

Shortly after we moved our suitcases into a B&B, my brothers brought

Art tour continued.

As we left House of Balls (see previous post), Allen's wife told us we should visit another outdoor art sculpture nearby in St. Paul, MN.

is his birthday today and he was feeling down and he thanked us for lifting his mood.

Nice guy and fellow burner and I wish his gallery was a thousand miles closer to our home.

Happy Birthday Allen!

filled with hundreds of art pieces and seeing everything in the 2 hours we spent with Allen would be impossible. The kinda place that you see something new every time you look again.

An added bonus was that it

Minneapolis was still ahead of us but 100 miles out of the way, but what's a meer 100 miles for someone I HAD TO SEE.

Worth every mile! I will recommend it to anyone who loves wacky sculpture. The place isn't huge but is big enough to be

The third stop was a 50 foot tall native American woman near the Missouri River named Dignity of Earth and Sky.

Impressive!

Close encounters of the second kind?

Stopped by to see a couple well known chunks of rock, a very large woman and an impressive collection of sculptures in a long drive in South Dakota and figured I should share them.

The first stop was made famous in a SciFi film.

At the very end it takes all my upper body strength to keep stirring as the water dissappear.
Then it's time to dump it out onto a wire screen I only use for this one task. When it cools a bit, into jars it goes. Below the wire is another benefit,

is to crank up the heat and boil away all that water. If you look at the series of images you'll see it took a little over an hour to do so. Most of that time I'm stirring the thickening syrup at full heat and the temperature rises. Splashing a bit of this syrup on you hurts much more

high heat.
I'm probably gonna sound like I'm mansplaining here, but if you've never made candies you may not know that when you heat sugar, the water molecules that like to attach to them are released and provide a LOT of water to dissolve the sugar into making a sweet syrup.
The goal now

Makin' candied ginger

Bought, peeled and sliced about 10 pounds of ginger into 1/8th inch slices yesterday. Today I boiled the pot completely full for 90 minutes or so and then dumped out the water.
While still hot and wet, I dumped in about 6 pounds of sugar and returned to the stove at

Glass Maps 18

Map b is packed for travel! My stress levels have dropped.

I've yet to show this map completed from the front because I want my brother and his wife to be the first people to see it that way. I'll send the first photos after we have the unveiling.

Since the American Dream is often hollow to many Americans so was the sign.

I burned it by flying a model airplane into the 2 tower of the capital H, with a gasoline/air explosion as it struck ala 911.
