Glass Maps 19:the Reveal

My wife & I bundled up Map B and drove it to Galena, Illinois where we met my brother & his wife who came from the Philadelphia area. My other brother joined us from Michigan.

Shortly after we moved our suitcases into a B&B, my brothers brought

As we left House of Balls (see previous post), Allen's wife told us we should visit another outdoor art sculpture nearby in St. Paul, MN.

When visiting the outdoor sculpture walk yesterday and then talking to the sculptor Wayne about my art at burningman and otherwise he told me YOU HAVE TO GO SEE ALAN!

Close encounters of the second kind?

Stopped by to see a couple well known chunks of rock, a very large woman and an impressive collection of sculptures in a long drive in South Dakota and figured I should share them.

The first stop was made famous in a SciFi film.

Posted an image a Buffalo while in Montana. Today on Buffalo Wyoming, we had a sasquatch sighting!

Makin' candied ginger

Bought, peeled and sliced about 10 pounds of ginger into 1/8th inch slices yesterday. Today I boiled the pot completely full for 90 minutes or so and then dumped out the water.
While still hot and wet, I dumped in about 6 pounds of sugar and returned to the stove at

Map b is packed for travel! My stress levels have dropped.

I've yet to show this map completed from the front because I want my brother and his wife to be the first people to see it that way. I'll send the first photos after we have the unveiling.

Today's memories of Burningman are from 2008 when the theme was "The American Dream". My first thought was how much of that dream was lost in our reaction to the 911 attacks. Somehow a 20 foot tall The End sign was my best response.

Today's memories of Burningman go back to 2014. Our Santa Cruz burner group decided to build a regional art project on the desert. After several meetings we decided it had to be a surf wave.
In the week until the next meeting, I built a prototype seen in the first image to

Today is my wedding anniversary!
12 years ago Gwen and I were married at burningman under a three legged arch that I built for the occasion.

The wedding was at sunset attended by a few friends and a ton of passersby who saw something going on.

Since we were so well known in the

As the event is still going on without me again this year, today's burningman memory is from 2012 when the world was supposed to end because the Mayan calendar was resetting to zero.

I designed, raised money and collected a team including an awesome main builder to

Today's tribute to that thing out on the desert is the 2007 burning man project I called "Global warming" that was a 7' diameter hallow wooden sphere that I eventually painted like a globe prior to rolling it into the blazing fire at the base if the collapsed man.

I'm into spheres so

I'm not going to burning man this year but in 2004 I designed and lead the team that built "Pagoda of infinite reflection" at the event.

I hope the desert rains don't negatively impact the fun of those attending this year.

Glass Maps 17: Delivering map b

Since the previous update, I've only spent a couple hours on map b after waiting over a week letting the glue dry.
There are a few things to fix on map a, but I've been unmotivated to start partly because of space & time limits.

Meanwhile, I'm

Makin' raisins

Our fridge and countertops have been covered with tubs of grapes lately with many bunches still collecting sunlight out in our little vineyard.

When you have bunches of grapes, 100 degree sunny days and some backyard tables; RAISINS.

I went out to check if any of our figs were ripe enough to eat yet but no. Fear set in when I found a split fig humming a little tune and saying "feed me".

I brought it in the house and gave it a bit of raw hamburger and wanted more. Maybe I can grow my own little shop of horror.

Glass Maps 14: no update

For the handful of people actually keeping up with my maps project, I'm exactly where I was 2 weeks or so ago; about 99% done with the hardest 1% still to go.

I've spent those 2 weeks catching up on some of the outdoor projects that have been on hold as I
