I've seen peers spend 100s of hours on marketing and 1000s of dollars on merch/printing before they even reach their cool story hook. And then they get angry/depressed when there's no interest.

Resist the myth of overnight success. Focus on providing context through the comic. The rest can wait.

It also lets you change your mind on *anything* - including continuing to make a comic at all.

I wasn't locked into story details, names, lore, or designs. And I had the freedom to break away or reboot it without shame. I gave myself the power to build it into something that COULD be marketable.

It is important not to forget about the other respiratory viruses currently circulating.

Dr Lyne Filiatrault has written about how this year's H3N2 flu variant is straining hospitals, and what we can do to help alleviate that: get vaccinated, wear a mask, and filter the air.

Infections in Canada this week are expected to result in 3,800 hospitalizations, 770 deaths (people who die at least 1 year earlier than they would without COVID) and 20,000 new long COVID cases serious enough to limit daily life activities.
