Our colleagues at Blue Ridge PRISM did great work advocating for these bills to label invasive species properly. We need to reduce and eventually eliminate invasive plants from the nursery trade to protect natural areas. Invasive species are a huge driver of habitat and biodiversity loss.

A good man has left this world. May he be remembered, because his life was a blessing.
James Harrison, whose blood donations saved over 2 million babies, has died
Harrison, whose plasma contained a rare antibody, rolled up his sleeve 1,173 times from 1954 to 2018. The Australian is credited with helping 2.4 million babies and advancing scientific research.

Lesser celandine will be showing itself soon in my area. This is one of the top worst invasive plants we have. I don't know if those bluebells exist anymore, this was taken a few years ago in a nearby park. Bluebells normally grow in massive patches.

This is why invasive species are devastating.

Can trees prevent disease? 🌳

Like doctors looking for a new cure, researchers wanted to see how increasing the number of trees would affect the community's health.
The Healing Power of Trees: A tree planting project improves the peoples' health
Adding 8,000 trees to a neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky, improves health conditions that are linked to heart disease, stroke and some types of cancer.

One of the most fun & interesting aspects of native gardening,
is finding & identifying all the cool little critters enjoying what you've planted for them.
All moths & butterflies have specific plants needed for their larval stage (caterpillar) Not just Monarchs.

Gardeners often plant wildflowers for pollinators, but not all wildflowers are native plants. This article helpfully teaches the distinction.

Birds-eye bog view. Peatlands are one of the world’s best long term carbon sinks, yet each year more and more of these unique ecosystems are destroyed by humans. Let’s agree that these peaty places are too precious - we need to protect what we have left and restore peat accumulation where we can.

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

The once-common orange-and-black butterflies have declined by 90% in recent decades.
