We witnessed an exhilarating apex predator event yesterday as the 64s Orcas cruised through Bressay Sound here in Shetland. We've recorded them attacking birds many times in the last 25 years but the skill to hunt this drake Common Eider was incredible.

While it is no surprise that the Melon-headed Whale was named for the shape of it's head, it's not due to the similarity of a melon, rather it’s shape is like that of the “melon” (which is a colloquial French word for derby or bowler hat!

De fet, durant els nostres primers 10 anys a l’Associació Cetàcea mai vam albirar cap individu d’aquesta espècie. 😱👇

To the best of my knowledge, we broke the 🚨 world longevity record 🚨 for Mediterranean Gull on Saturday, with this bird re-trapped at Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex. Ringed at Folkestone, Kent, as an adult in February 2001, it’s now in at least its 28th calendar year, with no sightings since 2001! (🧵 1/2)
