I had the alpha r2, so not a steam machine per-say, but basically an upgraded steam machine. It was really fun to use it and used it as my main pc up until like 2022.
Basically can't walk 20 feet without seeing a damn steam machine

Also generally with standalone HMDs, battery placement like the Pico headsets, where the battery is on the back of the head, makes so much more sense. I'd rather have an all around heavier headset if it meant that the weight distribution is more balanced.
like yeah maybe it was a fad in the early 2010s, but I still think it would have huge potential tbh. Hoping that the Valve Deckard will make flatscreen 3d a normal thing again, especially with it's supposed focus as an HMD that can also play flatscreen games.
