This is essentially offloading demand for safe and efficient public transit in favor of a less regulated, private company with its own host of technical and ethical issues. I'd also hazard a guess that by doing so, it reduces the likelihood of genuine, root cause public transit solutions

to be clear, I'm not arguing in favor of Uber/Lyft -- they're deeply evil companies and should've been eradicated years ago. but introducing a third, highly unregulated private company with a whole host of technical/ethical issues itself is just gonna perpetuate problems (even if they're different)

addressing a problem by introducing a different but still significantly problematic solution doesn't seem like a cause for celebration to me

I'm biased here but it strengthens my belief that global scale algorithmic social media is one of the worst inventions in human history. I'd delete it off the face of the earth without a second's hesitation
