United has fifth-freedom rights to sell tickets for just the HKG-BKK/SGN legs thanks to the Pan Am Pacific assets it bought in 1986.

Fun fact, in the late noughties I used those rights to buy a ticket (and fly) HKG-SGN the last time United flew the route.

United has unveiled 3 new Pacific routes:

-Adelaide from San Francisco
-Bangkok via Hong Kong
-Ho Chi Minh City via Hong Kong

United's reasoning to take risks is, on the whole I'd say, a good one. Businesses don't thrive and grow by only taking the safe route. www.linkedin.com/posts/edward...

The carrier will fly daily to both BKK and SGN from HKG beginning in October, providing onward connections from SFO/LAX.

SFO-ADL will also fly from 11 December, operating 3x weekly.

SFO-MNL gets a second daily flight from October.

On behalf of the entire aviation industry, let me be the first to say "fuck this guy"
Trump, reading off of prepared remarks, is seemingly linking a lack of aviation talent (and the cause of the crash?) to diversity, equity and inclusion policies from the previous administration. He is now reading off of the FAA website.
