A small example I witnessed today:

Jersey City has a monthly repair café where volunteers will help you fix your broken stuff and it’s such a genuinely heartening, community-building event.

i have no idea how unpopular this opinion is going to be but i think ben affleck should have played the leo dicaprio role in the departed. it's not believable that leo was a working class boston guy (completely awful accent work as well). the Matt & Ben combo but in a Serious Film would have owned.

Donald Sutherland, a master actor, elevated everyone around him. He was the spark of M*A*S*H, the mesmerizingly still center of Klute, the hapless, decent dad who held Ordinary People together, the key to Don't Look Now. No Oscar noms? That oversight belongs in the Academy's obit, not in his. RIP.

This, I maintain, remains a too-little discussed reason for the rise of remote work: dependence on snarled roads and underinvestment in transit, and NIMBY opposition to alternatives have made commuting a crushing, unwanted chore.
Very glad I don’t have to commute into/out of the city anymore.

We know we need to improve and update our infrastructure and yet we continually choose not to.

We do not have serious people running the show.
