Reminder: 1) there is no algorithm on here, if you found something interesting, make sure to repost, not just like. 2) repost your own post after 8 hrs so that people from different time zones can see.

Hi new folks! I'm Shawn. My research utilizes a combination of systems biology, systematics, and comparative genomics to understand trait evolution in plants. My current work took me to the northern Sahara in search of desert-adapted wild relatives of Brassica crops (🥦🧪). Here's how it went:

Before joining the Yuan Lab, I spent a lot of time during my Hons & MSc years in the epic Drakensberg- South Africa. I studied a stunning daisy in the genus Senecio, & these gorgeous pink flowered Rhodohypoxis. Oct-Dec was our usual field season & this year I am certainly missing the mountains.

Hello BlueSky 👋🏼 I'm new to this community so here's a quick intro--I'm an Asst. Research Prof in the Yuan lab at UConn. I use the anthocyanin leaf stripe phenotype of Mimulus verbenaceus (pictured) to study the genetics, development, and evolution of novel phenotypes. Also love running & dogs.

A quick note to all the NewSkys: there really isn’t algorithm here. We depend on each other to spread the word. So if you want others to see something, repost it. Liking something adds it to your feed but doesn’t surface it for others.
