Materialists is a movie for people who find Whit Stillman a little too blue collar.

Rewatching Wicked Part 1 and remembering that I want at least one hour of part 2 to focus on the animal band from the Ozdust Ballroom. Their touring life, setlists, merch table, musical influences, everything.

Not sure if it’s a comedy. Not sure if I’m even having fun watching it. But damn if “She’s in the sewers” wasn’t the funniest line delivery I’ve heard in awhile. Well done, Friendship.

I want to believe the Epstein Files will be the end of MAGA, but then I remember the Catholic Church is still going strong after its own Epstein Files.

Bacurau is one of those movies I periodically think back to and smile about. Not that it’s a feel-good, perfect movie, but that it’s so unique and unexpected… it’s what you want all moviegoing about experiences to feel like.
""BACURAU exists in this hazy space of too much heat & too little water, begetting visions that seem just outside the realm of the expected: flying saucer drones and motorcycle riders bedecked in psychedelic neon, all party to conspiracy."
Bacurau (2019)
Though 'Bacurau' is inspired by classic Westerns, the ideas it expresses are more than just a reaction to the set Western tropes, championing collective action as an alternative to the individualism…

I have trouble believing the Trump/Clinton bit because it would involve Trump doing work.

Really strong new music out today from Home Front (hardcore vocals meets New Wave) and Ben Quad (Midwest emo). Give them a listen.

New music from Robyn AND The Ark in the same week? My Swedish pop loving heart is overflowing!

Also, I hope someday there’s a Netflix theme park with an Escape From Frankenstein’s Castle flume ride.

Del Toro’s Frankenstein is very much a movie for our times. Is it subtle? No, but neither are our times. I really dug it, and am super glad I made the effort to see it on the big screen.

The Daily Show fun fact: the only reason I know the play Love Letters is because @chrisregan.bsky.social used it as a punchline in his joke packets approximately once a month. He might’ve even pitched this exact upcoming production.

NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:
Millionaire Tax That Inspired Mamdani Fuels $5.7 Billion Haul in Massachusetts
A millionaire levy in Massachusetts that New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani holds up as a model for taxing the rich has generated $3 billion more in revenue than expected without forcing...

Watched the 2025 Deathstalker tonight and it delivered what I wanted (sword vs monsters) and more (a climactic skeletons kicking each other in the groin fight). You know if this is your kind of movie, too. Way to go again, Steve Kostanski!

For years, advertising has been how Stereogum made money to pay its writers. While we made progress moving away from that model, Google AI search has decimated the business almost overnight. Today we relaunch with a greater focus on subscription. We’d love your support: stereogum.com/2478838/ster...

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

This year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions landed on a solid metric for determining who’s worthy: is your best known song so good that even Twenty One Pilots can’t completely ruin it?

If you’re pro-Trump, you’re pro-starving Americans. I didn’t make the rules, the Supreme Court did, and they’re also pro-starving Americans.
November 8, 2025 at 6:11 AM
Damn. The Supreme Court didn’t even say let them eat cake.

Tomorrow, Sat. 11/8, a murderer’s row of talented comic book creators will be signing at REVENGE OF COMIC BOOK BLOCK PARTY! I’ll be there 1-2pm, but folks will be signing ALL DAY! Comics! Pinball! Live interviews! It’s gonna be a blast. Way better than your other plans (sorry, your other plans).
