"I knew that what I had was saggy and bloated, not sufficiently coherent or compelling to be publishable. The main problem, I thought, was how to structure and organise the pieces. I started borrowing memoirs from the library." ~ Beverley Stevens brevity.wordpress.com/2025/01/29/a...
A River Runs Through My Memoir-in-Essays
By Beverley Stevens I have at last found a book—actually two books—that are close to what I envisage for the memoir I’m working on. Finding these models feels like a validation and fuels my not-so-…

Today’s #RāmereShorts words were:
magic, sliced, dusty, nylon, wooden, sugar

Wooden spoon stirs dark chocolate
Nylon sieve shakes dusty icing sugar
On sliced strawberries
As hands work their magic
For Zac’s first Xmas

Today’s #RāmereShorts words were: lightly, carry, stirring, long, grass, five, us.

The five of us sit
A little apart
Amidst long grass
Sighing lightly as the packs we carry
Are cast aside
In favour of stirring views
And lunch

Today's words in the #RāmereShorts game over on the other side are: dry, light, birds, chip, scent, trucks

The light fades & birds trill
Drying grass & burning wood chips scent the night
The quiet of a perfect evening
Undisturbed
Til trucks rattle by

One of my favourite Scots words is tartle, which describes that moment of hesitation or panic while you're desperately trying to remember someone's name (when greeting or introducing them). I especially like it because it always makes me think of this brilliant Edward Steed drawing...

Today's words in Read NZ Te Pou Muramura's #RāmereShorts game are eyelashes, weekend, consistency, muse, scent, basket.

An editor muses
It’s eyelashes, not eye lashes
At the weekend, not on
Scent, not perfume
Don’t put it in the too-hard basket
Consistency is all

The one reason I haven’t fully eXited: the Friday game from Read NZ Te Pou Muramura. The challenge: to write something in 140 characters including the day's six words. Today's were: fourteen, confession, properly, examine, sticky, coffee. #RāmereShorts

Fourteen properly made sticky toffees
Went missing before coffee was served
No confession forthcoming
No evidence to examine
The mystery remains

So disappointing on a cold night to jump into bed and find the electric blanket was set to 1, not 3.

Winston could be deputy PM. Trump could be US House speaker. What's the world coming to, I can't help exclaiming.
