Thank you - that is just what I needed after a shocking week trying to coach some experienced teachers who really like the way they do things. @mrarobbins.bsky.social your book is going on my Christmas list. @adamboxereducation.bsky.social any plans for carousel coaching?

‘Why making reading easier may be a bad choice’ - my piece via @tesmagazine.bsky.social

“It is helpful to consider the Goldilocks principle when it comes to reading in class. If it is too easy, it is just as likely to bore pupils as it is to make them more engaged.”

I absolutely loved this episode. There were so many aspects this podcast that resonated with me as a dyslexic but avid reader; as an early years teacher and as a mother of two teenage boys who seem to love the English curriculum.

I don't think so, because the decline of Eng Lit / the humanities more broadly is a global trend.

More here.

What is the cause, is it a problem - and if so, what can we do about it?

Totally agree with Stuart Lock, the importance of a knowledge based curriculum is understood far more than it was ten years ago but there is still a long way to go, particularly in the primary sector as many are still not entirely convinced by its value.
