This is an incredible column, to which I can only offer an addendum: There is value in using and improving the existing urban transit infrastructure to improve suburban service and generate exurban and next-city-over ridership. Commuter railroads are where these synergies are most evidence, IMO.

The hard right turn among tech vcs was due to being upset at not being able to prey on 19 year old Stanford dropout founders they funded/fear of their past behavior being discovered in a post metoo world. The fact they were 19 and not 16 was just due to circumstance, not underlying moral principles
Something I think about is how the same libertarian technologists went blood and soil MAGA are the same libertarians who don’t believe in age of consent laws and who are also the same libertarians that run off to underdeveloped LatAm countries to do God only knows what illegal and vile activities
