I simply can’t believe that there are people who eat their food randomly, without planning in advance what/where the last bite will be.

Yes, this. No local news, only a few friends and barely any of my “for fun” accounts made it to Bluesky. I tried (sort of) but right now it’s not for me.
to me the biggest problem with bluesky is that politics dominates this place. that makes sense, i assume most of us left twitter for political reasons. but there's not enough chat about other things on here. there used to be, but not anymore. you get a little of the old twitter on big sports nights

Last week, my publication ran a story about an elementary school’s “parade of nations,” celebrating its students’ many cultures. On our Facebook page, the story received the following comments (which we hid, but not soon enough). Telling kids to get the fuck out of America. This is where we are now.

Genuinely one of the greatest petty little joys of being a journalist is accidentally getting auto-completed into group comms you’re not supposed to be a part of but usually the funniest version of that that can happen is being CC’d on an email chain where PR people complain about you to each other

“His political lens” = bigotry
Trump’s move to blame the crash on diversity reflects his instinct to immediately frame major events through his political lens whether facts fit or not. After the terrorist attack in New Orleans, he blamed immigration even though the attacker was a US citizen born in Texas.

Said 👏🏼 to 👏🏼 his 👏🏼 face 👏🏼
Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"

Your vote impacts your community. And in Kent County, students and their immigrant families are worried about what the future president’s deportation promises could mean. Hear it from them:

In a movie theater, watching for the blip in the corner of the screen that occurred where the projectionist connected one reel of the movie to the next.
what’s your favorite instance of haptic nostalgia—the poignant memory of the physicality of an obsolete thing—like dialing a rotary phone, shifting gears in a manual transmission, opening a soda can with a pull ring?

i think the death of twitter is really depressing. i understand people's desire to find another place that will be like twitter but i don't think there ever will be on that scale, in terms of organizing and community building. i think that's sad.

it also sucks for freelancers and content creators.
