Ugh, I'm so sorry this happened to you. How heartbreaking.
I also ended up withdrawing a story from F&SF after acceptance. I never received the contract, but I had seen enough writers have problems that I decided I didn't want to deal with it.

For me, it's "Arachnomorphosis" in Strange Horizons, a story about turning into a spider that is really all about mental health and love and getting through hard times. It's also a love letter to San Francisco.
