I'm trying a new thing where I make little graphics for my stories. Here is the first one!

The Delicacy by James Albon

In this graphic novel, two brothers come to the big city (London) to set up a restaurant and farm. Things get wild from there. Gripping plot, creepy vibes, lots of fun.

The Husbands by Holly Gramazio.

Lauren comes home to a husband who wasn't there before. Turns out, she has a magic attic, which lets her swap husbands.

Hilarious, great plot, so much fun.

My husband gave me this book. We've had many jokes about how I like him and won't send him up to the attic.

The Book of Love by Kelly Link.

Masterful, stunning, engaging. The brilliance of a Kelly Link story, but you get to read it for 600 pages!

It is so good!

How To Be Perfect by Michael Schur, the creator of The Good Place.

This book covers the basics of ethics in a fun and readable way. (No mean feat for a book about philosophy.) It was hilarious while also making me think deeply.

System Collapse by Martha Wells.

Another great book in the Murderbot Diaries. Fast-paced, exciting, with a hard science fiction flare. And, of course, our lovable Murderbot, who I just want to tell everything is okay and give a hug, but who I would not hug because Murderbot would not like that.

Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M. McManus.

Another winner from McManus. She writes great YA mystery. This one has mysterious disappearances in the present and the past, creepy vandalism, and a main character who loves true crime maybe just a bit too much. A page turner.

Still Writing by Dani Shapiro.

This is a book on the writing life with some advice for authors, but I think the sections that really shine are the memoir portions, where the author talks about her childhood and other moments from her life.

The First Bright Thing by J.R. Dawson.

A magic circus in the 1920s, found family, and a villain who literally gave me nightmares. This book was intensely readable. (I did not want to put it down.)

Roaming by Jillian Tamaki and Mariko Tamaki.

A graphic novel that so accurately depicts young love and toxic friendships, with clear, beautiful art.

The relationships between these 19-year-olds felt so real to me. That cool, irreverent, aggressive person who seems so appealing when one is 19...

Wellness by Nathan Hill.

At it's heart, a love story, a marriage story, but also a story about family and the parents we have and the parents we become. Beautifully written, full of interesting facts. A book that is saying something true about life.

Translation State by @annleckie.com

Phenomenal science fiction. A fast-paced and intricate novel, full of interesting aliens and engrossing political machinations.

One of the best books I've read all year.

Starling House by Alix E. Harrow.

A gorgeous gothic novel with a haunted house at its center and metatextual footnotes. I love how this story explores how history is created and our understanding of the past, how the stories we tell become what's true.
