It took seeing adult bullies to understand that my childhood bullies didn’t even really want to hurt me, they just wanted to feel powerful and how I felt about it wasn’t even in the equation.
I can’t imagine someone not outgrowing that, but apparently it happens quite a lot!

I get to work all the time w IRTAs (post bachelors research assistants). They are smart and excited about entering the field of science, and being an IRTA sets them on a great pathway to a life of studying science. They are our future scientists.

To note: I'm here today because two generations ago the US let in my grandparents, who arrived from oppressive, poverty-stricken, disease-ridden, war-torn countries , with religious beliefs (Jewish) and political beliefs (Communist) that most Americans would have found strange and frightening. 1/
