Don't undermine public safety, police accountability, & Mayor Wilson's ability to shape policing in Seattle.

Tell council to reject the proposed police union contract.

Attend Seattle City Council & give public comment
TUESDAY DECEMBER 9th at 2:00 PM.
Seattle's proposed police union contract once again fails to deliver even the meager reforms and accountability promised eight years ago, opines Howard Gale. With the city council set to vote on the contract this month, here's a case for rejecting it.

1/4 @councilmember-amr.bsky.social statement “We’re talking about a delicate dance between federal powers—which are more than a local jurisdiction’s—and our police department’s responsibility to protect our residents,” forgets that this is not a question of federal supremacy.
ICE raids are rising, and Seattle says SPD cannot help. Advocates call Harrell’s order mostly symbolic, so the council is pushing SPD to spell out how officers will respond, what they can refuse, and how they will protect residents if federal agents overreach.

1/3 The claim that "while the executive orders can’t change the fact that federal law enforcement trumps local law enforcement," ignores the fact that local law enforcement is still required to protect folks from potential 4th amendment violations regardless of who commits them, even the feds.

1/2 Amy Radil was provided twice w/docs showing that SPD made false claims re: use-of-force by SPD against folks in crisis. Yet Radil continues to ignore the info & my perspective on the failures of Seattle policing. This information was central to Judge Robart ending the consent decree.
After 13 years of oversight, a federal judge has restored local control of the Seattle Police Department.

@mscarter3.bsky.social is always a dependable stenographer for the status quo & the powerful: he repeatedly fails to note the evidence I have provided him documenting the severely flawed data that SPD provides to the federal court. See: x.com/bessarabia1/...

1/3 Today @ 10:03am Judge Robart announced he is ending Seattle's 13+ yr. federal consent decree for police oversight. Judge Robart, noting that 4 days ago was the 15th anniversary of SPD's murder of John T. Williams, said "his life was not in vain." Really? How about asking

Will you instruct your police to fully enforce SMC 18.12.280 on 8/30 @ Gas Works -- especially SMC 18.12.280(A) requiring SPD to "assure equal opportunity" for all in park facilities -- or will you have SPD violate SMC 18.12.280 & the rights of protesters?

Here are the relevant legal citations along with the relevant Seattle Parks permit sections that Feucht agreed to when getting the 8/30 Gas Works Park permit:

1/3 We can give Feucht & other christofascist grifters what they want by fighting them on 8/30 in Seattle or we can guarantee their defeat, never to return, by ensuring Seattle law SMC 18.12.280 is enforced (library.municode.com/wa/seattle/c...). The 8/30 event is permitted & advertised as public.

1/5 Wow! Way for @thestranger.com to lose the lead & portray Harrell as clever when he got supremely clowned. Feucht posted this to FB way earlier today: www.facebook.com/events/74007...
Feucht WILL be at Cal Anderson Park regardless of permits or agreements with Harrell. Feucht's current schedule:
August 20, 2025 at 1:45 AM
1/2 Sean Feucht has posted all over social media & on his website that the 8/30 event WILL be @ Cal Anderson.
At 7pm on Thurs Feucht posted on X:
The city of Seattle is currently planning to approve a permit for a far-right anti-LGBTQ group to rally at Cal Anderson Park tomorrow. Look for lots of official statements (and coverage that may or may not credit our exclusive scoop yesterday) on Friday; read all the details on PubliCola today.
Exclusive: Christian Nationalist Rally by Anti-LGBTQ Group Will Take Place at Cal Anderson Park

Barring a last-minute change of heart, the city plans to permit the Memorial Day event this week based on legal advice from City Attorney Ann Davison.
