I've liked Paul's Boutique less as the tournament has gone on - I don't think they hit full stride til Check Yer Head, and Ill Communication is the peak - but I still like it more than Madonna.

One thing these artists have in common: They rose to popularity by scandalously offending sensibilities.

One big takeaway: I need to listen to music through good headphones more often.

Wandering through a crazy, detailed, often dark and labyrinthine space while Helena Bonham narrates a twisted fairy tale scored to that music pulsing through your headset... whew man, it was a lot. Very cool, and somewhat unsettling, but also... it clearly stuck with me. :)

As for Pericles: Mary Zimmerman staged a version around 2006 that was *incredible.* (This article says it's from 2004, but other sources suggest that's wrong.)

I think it took a lot of script revision. But damn was it magical.

I've only seen one really great Romeo & Juliet. It was staged with an all male cast (cross-dressing for the female characters) and that energy was fun. But what really made it work was that the leads were young looking and played *very* 14. Making them the right age made it work so much more.

Honestly I just went looking for a clip of the moment where they call their guns "swords" because I so clearly remember thinking, "I hate this," at that exact moment, and the clip I found was so much worse than I remember it being, just absolute shit wish-it-was Robert Rodriguez stuff.

Claire Danes is quite attractive in it.

...but otherwise yeah.

This was carefully crafted by everyone involved to hit 60 exactly and provide maximum plausible deniability. I know there are some legitimately pissed off Dem senators, but this doesn't happen without Schumer's full winking support and done in a manner structured to let him claim he doesn't like it.

Also: Dick Durbin is a ridiculous name. That's not a senator name; that's a Gilbert & Sullivan name.

Ha! You. :)

Ugh, I can't maths anymore.

There's a Mark Lanegan quality to his voice on here that really caught me off guard. Drugs, man.

Cell Phone Blues and Togetherness Is All I'm After really jumped out at me.
