It was never about trade but a performative ‘strategic’ pivot from away from Europe to Asia & an to create additional barriers to potential efforts to rejoin the single market.
CPTPP membership is as close to worthless as it's possible to get.
We already had individual trade deals with nearly all members, and membership doesn't magically make the Pacific any narrower or any nearer.
Brexit is over 50x as damaging.

This was a really interesting read as someone who has spent a bit of time in US and in US populated contexts in Europe.
