Even if I had the privilege of having expensive name brand clothes, and actually looked somewhat better at age 13, I was still always going to be the new kid who didn't grow up there, and a pretty socially backwards one at that. And that was glaringly obvious to all but me.

In my defense, I never tried to change anything about myself to fit in. The kids would have never accepted me, anyway.
However, I wonder if my old classmates ever look back at themselves, a bunch of white suburban kids cosplaying as gangsta rappers, and feel genuinely embarrassed for themselves.

In my defense, I never tried to change anything about myself to fit in. The kids would have never accepted me, anyway.

So, apparently, showing up with longish hair and no name brand clothing that didn't exactly set the world on fire back in central Indiana was apparently the WORST THING EVER in my new school in south New Jersey. Also, having different musical tastes was a pretty big sin, too.
