Progress is when workers lose their jobs so capitalists make more profit.

I think a scatter plot would have been useful here. But eyeballing it the picture ain't good.

Big part of the problem is lack of council housing. Densifying the inner parts of the city with mid rise council owned flats would be my preference.

If you don't buy that, it could just be the bias against China so obvious it's become a meme.

This isn't to say that China doesn't do bad stuff, it does. But our media have a track record of only picking up on the bad stuff and not reporting the good stuff.

So I treat their coverage skeptically.

Pressure seems to have come mostly from companies filing defamation cases not covered by the Uni's insurance.

This is the actual story but for some reason it's buried half way down the article.

Lot of people quoting this seem to think China was able to exert leverage by denying the uni access to Chinese students but that doesn't seem to be true.

Elsewhere in the article it states only 1% of the unis budget came from enrolling students from China or Hong Kong.

Apparently war *is* the only good thing to spend money on.

It would be very embarrassing if the British State destroyed itself because these pricks told it to policyexchange.org.uk/publication/...

OK so my read is this is not additional but the actual budget for R&D?

In this doc UKRI is spending £38bn/4yrs until 2030 = £9.5bn/year

It currently spends £8.8bn/year

So we're talking at most a 7% increase in funding.

Inflation is currently 4%

So 3% real terms increase?

I must say the amounts of public money put forward do not suggest to me that this is a serious plan.

Take for example the Warm Homes plan.

£13bn / 5m = £2600 per house

That's about 1/4 the price of an air source heat pump, meaning it will still be far cheaper to install a gas boiler.

This feels like one case where environmental and economic impacts of plant based diets align.

Personally, I'd bring back British Restaurants serving plant based food.

Genuinely not sure if this person is just stupid or cynical.

The point is people calling the suffragettes heroes while calling *less violent* groups terrorists is staggering hypocricy.
