The admin at @pcc.edu need to know that the community is watching what they do, and is concerned about the bizarre choices it is making that is causing direct harm to the current and future students who depend on the college for a chance to get an affordable education, skills, and jobs.

If you care about the mission of community colleges, the arts, and the faculty and students who make up the core mission of the college, I encourage you to make your voice heard to the board and to the administration. Tell admin to do their jobs, protect students and vibrant arts programs.

I encourage everyone to support @pccffap.bsky.social and the students at @pcc.edu. If you live in Portland, you elect the PCC board to represent YOU and oversee the decisions of PCC's leadership.

It is a shame to see administrators seemingly dedicated to destroying key parts of its educational mission and be laser focused on harming its student body, future students, and its faculty.

The answer of course is unknowable, but comes down to (almost verbatim) "Because we can". The administration at @pcc.edu refuses to listen to its students, faculty, and support staff, refuses to actually understand the programs it is cutting, and is completely out of touch.

For instance, @pcc.edu is eliminating Music and Sonic Arts, despite full classes with waitlists, a national profile, and huge amounts of student success. Every time I tell someone about this, they inevitably look confused and ask "Why would they do that?".

The administration at @pcc.edu is engaging in unconscionable behavior in cutting classes and whole programs for the sketchiest of reasons. This is especially problematic for the arts programs.

Given all of that, it is interesting to see what institutions are going to bat for their students, their faculty, and their programs, and which aren't. Right now, we are seeing a slow moving disaster here in Portland.
