Today I tried to argue for the value of a pre-registered study even with deviations, analogising that it’s easier to trust a political party that deviates from its manifesto than one that never had one. Then I realised this isn’t true and that’s why open research practices need to be mandatory.

One of my favourite things to do to entertain myself on days when doing research seems like an absolute drag is to ironically drink from this mug I found in a charity shop.

In my gym they put videos of people doing CrossFit and Hyrox on the TV. I wouldn’t go to the pub expecting videos of people drinking pints on the TV. In the pub they put on videos of people playing sport. So it follows that in the gym they should put on videos of people drinking pints, if anything.

Universities need to take back the means of production with regards to academic publishing. There is zero reason for this--academics/researchers do the writing, editing and reviewing--why are we a) providing free labor and b) being charged for the privilege?

wild to me that whenever Epstein is in the news, bsky science folk are up in arms about a couple of famous academics who barely knew the guy rather than Martin Nowak, who took millions of Epstein dollars to run his lab, hosted Epstein there often, and somehow is still teaching at Harvard

They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for the systematic review.
