"The Night That Finds Us All" is a chef's-kiss-perfect weird fiction title, and the novel by @johnhornor.bsky.social does a great job living up to those expectations. It took a minute to find its sea legs, but once it got rolling i had a hard time putting it down.

Really enjoyed Uncertain Sons and Other Stories by Thomas Ha -- satisfying, uncanny nuggets. Gave me the same weird brain tickle i remember from first reading George Saunders stories.

Thanks to @thomasha.bsky.social in particular for the new-to-me word "curtilage"!

Just finished the audiobook of Borne by @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social, and it was fantastic. Mord will haunt my daydreams for weeks.

Also, narration by Bahni Turpin was excellent!

Eating in a car is depressing, full stop. If I am eating in a car, it means I have failed in some meaningful way. Eating standing next to a car in a parking lot is a life-affirming joy in comparison.

Just finished "The Sea Dreams It Is the Sky", first of two pieces in A Lush and Seething Hell by @johnhornor.bsky.social, and it is fantastic -- cosmic horror I might recommend to friends who don't normally read it.

Months later, I find my mind returning to The Ballad of Black Tom. I love me some #HPL dunks (or “recontextualizations”), but too many fail to do what @victorlavalle.bsky.social accomplishes: marry legitimate anger with a good genre read in its own right.

Enjoyed Yellow Jessamine by @caitlinstarling.com -- creepy, atmospheric horror / dark fantasy with a painfully damaged protagonist. Deliberately paced, but not longer than it has to be -- might have to devote an entire shelf to genre novellas, i'm loving them.

To me, a Nazi salute means, "I want to murder your family." There can be no irony about it: It puts deep anger and hatred in my heart to see it done and I will never forgive anyone who justifies or minimizes it.
