My grandma passed away this week - I am learning SO many things I didn't know about her. She was very politically active (Dem state central committee etc) and I just learned she was a redlining volunteer in the 60s- would call landlords/realtors on behalf of Black families to arrange to view homes

We have some really spectacular clays down here, and amazing variety. These fired for 5 days to to cone 12-13, held them above over 2,200-2,300 F for over 48 hours!

I did, I made two different molds using a couple different phacops trilobites from our teaching collection. I pressed the real fossils into clay to make several molds, which I then bisque fired. Those then get used to form the pieces

I’m a geologist/potter!
I love to work with wild materials for both my clays and glazes to really connect and build that sense for place and time. And I REALLY love the fire part- I fire my work in 5 day long large woodfired kilns.

Closest we got here is they put these futuristic lighting sconces in our Sciences building. Probably in the early 80s
The rest of the place looks like shit.
