I guess since this covers survey papers as well (a class of valid research articles) it still sucks. But it's really unclear to me what this means exactly

For example, I don't think something like this would be accepted without peer review unless all other kinds of scientific articles are as well

And from a pure privacy perspective, the problem there is that once you’ve demanded every encrypted app add a scanning component, then changing what you scan for is just a software update to be agreed upon quietly in some committee down the line.

Yeah, I don’t really use the discover feed either. My problem is I tend to read the comments under posts from people I follow. I also know I’m not immune to more subtle forms of manipulation (ie thinking an idea is popular bc it has many likes, even when they could all be from bots)
