Trying to finish a PhD on ethics of generative AI just as the entire world has started talking about it. Not at all exhausting. Also, daily dog adventures around Sydney and beyond!
I have been calling for exactly this for years. We can not leave these critical decisions to be made within tech bubbles.
No matter how well meaning engineers and tech companies are, they must recognise that it is essential to include diverse stakeholders outside of tech.

We do need to start approaching these problems from less of a strict tech fix and more of a social science issue. I am glad to hear some companies say they are pursuing a more participatory approach to developing guidelines, frameworks, and constitutions.

Oh that's the big giant Salesforce thingy in SF right? I was visiting Google at the same time last year and the accom prices were through the roof! Stunning amount of money and power Salesforce has - shutting down whole streets and shifting the homeless over for a couple days. It seemed surreal.

I love this. I have been preparing notes for one of my thesis chapters that will touch on some of these ideas, so it is really helpful, thank you. Looking forward to reading the paper tomorrow.

"This view of ‘AI’ as a research field overlapping with psychology sees computational systems as theoretical tools (...) Accordingly, AI is one of the cognitive sciences (Figure 1), and for decades there was a close dialogue between the fields of AI and cognitive psychology." 3/n
