"Overall, research has not supported the common-sense presumption that digital approaches to schooling are better than non-digital alternatives. At the broadest level, widespread computer use in education has been found to be associated with lower student achievement."

For my money, this is one of the most important stories of the year. FLF are one of my clients, but I'm happy to put my voice behind this proposition, which looks like it has cracked fusion. /1

Found some interesting music with other’s replies, and since fam is all sick with Covid, seems fun. #MusicAsk

Saw a lovely indie movie with my fam that I cannot recommend highly enough: The Ballad of Wallis Island. Very funny and touching and narratively well constructed without being predictable. Good storytelling in short supply so thanks to all involved.

CLARIFICATION :

The Trevor Project's hotline will still be live. But basically this means LGBTQ people can no longer be connected to it through the US national 988 suicide prevention hotline.

They will need to be contacted DIRECTLY

So spread this around

They can be texted. They can be called.

Been said before, but I wish this diagnosis of the business model for creative pursuits weren’t so clear, depressing, and seemingly unavoidable.
They said they weren’t interested. As they’d looked very hard at the numbers, and clearly the only profitable area for the “content creation” industry was as a middleman or distributor. Not as a creator.

It was the first time that I understood the parasite economy.

A very good book! Ideas have stayed with me for years. Recommend highly if you haven’t read it.

In a sea of alarming things, I can see that I am being desensitized to the DOJ firing from the White House and targeting anyone who criticizes the administration. Both are terrible. But cronyism killing the prosecution of clear white collar crime seems like a new and very dangerous precedent.
This is *extremely* alarming — White House fires a career federal prosecutor because he (1) went after a politically connected businessman and (2) criticized Trump during a 2020 congressional bid.

“White House fires a career prosecutor” is itself unprecedented.

I appreciate the clear articulation of the theory behind the current Dem response. I disagree with the idea that minimalist response creates space for R’s to oppose nominees. I am open to data pointing out this works, but it seems too cleverly counterintuitive that quiet opposition peels off R’s 1/x
Effective-
- Create space for R's to oppose nominees
- Build pressure on R's to oppose Trump policies or flip on bills
- Strengthen Dems' '25 and '26 electoral response
- Buttress legal challenges to Trump actions

These actually help but rarely solve, and let's be real- you're already mad at me

Watching Aussie Open women’s dubs … and I think Townsend wants to win this match? Incredible level in 3rd set.

Absolute rollicking books with big ideas throughout. Recommend wholeheartedly. I once saw David Brin and Charlie Stross speak in different forums about a month apart. Love both their novels and both are incredibly sharp but was struck by Brin’s optimism. Felt lucky to meet two of my SF heroes.
