Welcome to the Bear Den Hosting Bluesky account! The goal of this account is to talk tech and spread the word of a privacy and security focused managed hosting and private cloud provider that emphasizes individual attention and one-on-one teamwork!

With us, your information is yours - not for sale!
For those rightfully concerned about what Bluesky has done to Elyon Badger, we wish to remind everyone that hosting your own website as a central base has never been easier.

At Bear Den Hosting your data is secure and your privacy is #1, and we don't bow to fascist takedowns.

There is no middle ground when it comes to AI. This is why Bear Den Hosting does not and will never use it, nor use any technologies that incorporate it without a method of removal.

Safety, security, privacy. We care about this for ourselves and for our clients.
"Surely there's a middle ground here?" The CEO of Helldivers 2 studio Arrowhead says people "jump to extreme takes" when debating generative AI, and that there needs to be more nuance in the discussion.

At Bear Den Hosting, we believe that to have a healthy Internet, each component's operators must act as a force for good, not neutrality.

To that end, in addition to blocking all of Facebook ("Meta"), Twitter/X, Gab, and Truth Social, we are now blocking the Grokipedia and Groktube domains as well.

We are happy to report that none of our services have been affected by the AWS outage.

We proudly run our entire software stack locally and do not outsource anything to a third party.

Bear Den Hosting will always do our best to keep you online and running well.

With this said, we will keep a business presence where we can and that list is at bear-den.org.

We've doubled the amount of storage available on our server, which means that we've got plenty more capacity for anyone who has been on the fence and decides that they want to break free from Big Tech and take control back into their own hands.

We look forward to seeing you taking back control!

Due to concerns about Bluesky as a stable social media and outreach platform, a backup that will mirror posts here has been established at social.arthfach.com/@bearden - accessible on ActivityPub (Mastodon and others) at @bearden@arthfach.com.

This will allow for seamless switching if required.

To our current and potential EU clients:

We are investigating the impact of the EU's proposed "Chat Control" legislation on the services we are able to offer to EU clients, including the impacts on security and privacy from the legislation.

We will let you know as soon as we do about any changes.

We'd just like to thank the folks who make Abyss Web Server (aprelium.com) - we gained access to a beta edition of their new version which has significantly improved PHP handling, allowing us to offer our clients better stability and response times on commonly loaded pages.

Thank you!

Pricing update:

Due to the costs to run the online office suite, the price for the bear-den.org private cloud account will be increasing from $5 to $10/month and the price for the PERSONAL hosted cloud server will go from $10 to $20/month (discounts available for both) for new accounts.

Thank you.

We are pleased to roll out a small update for bear-den.org to clarify offerings and prices (no more paragraph format!) and provide links directly to the intake form for those who wish to use it.

I want to write a small thread (please remember, short form social media, some context is assumed / left out) about why Bear Den Hosting believes that we can be more of a "safe harbor" for NSFW than some other places such as Neocities.

I am not a lawyer; this is just my interpretation.

Thank you, Dante!
Reminder, ‪@bear-den.org‬ offers fantastic hosting, brilliant support, and for GMs, hosting your FoundryVTT setup there is buttery smooth.

Updated Debian from v12 to v13 and had a few breaking changes; all should be fixed now (and no, software developers, you should not make BREAKING changes to configuration files on POINT releases).

Please let us know immediately if anything appears broken or not working as expected.

Thank you!

Regarding the nc.bear-den.org private cloud as well, we have now enabled document editing using OnlyOffice! This allows for in-browser editing of office documents such as text files and spreadsheets without needing to use a third party application to do so.

To all nc.bear-den.org users:

We recently performed a small migration that may have caused an infinite login loop with web browser logins. If you were affected, please clear your cookies for bear-den.org and the infinite login loop should be fixed and you will be able to log in again.

We pledge to NEVER use or allow AI in our systems and promise to do our best to make sure your data is yours and yours alone - secure from end to end where even we can't see anything.

Privacy, security, and peace of mind. That's what Bear Den Hosting wants to make sure our clients have.
